Story
The story of One Fenix Down takes place in the fictional Kingdom of Torloria. In the demo, the Torlorian Kingdom finds itself under attack from the Goa Empire and it’s Dracokin soldiers. At the start of the demo, you take control of a samurai like character named Chichioku, a warrior who appears to be on the side of Torloria and trying to ward off the Goa empire. This is only the beginning though as the rest of the demo switches to the perspectives of other characters and their point of view in the conflict. I found the story very enjoyable as the game does not make light of the consequences of the violence taking place. The demo continuously provided me with characters to root for, ranging from a simple messenger to a seasoned war captain. The story made me care for the characters and really made me want to know what’s going to happen next.

Gameplay
The gameplay in One Fenix Down was highly enjoyable. Especially combat. During combat the player has an HP bar for health, SP bar for skills, and ATB bar that shows when that character will be able to execute their turn. What made the combat unique was that every single character had a different playstyle, even down to menu options and skill inputs. This was something that I wasn’t expecting but something I most definitely enjoyed. For example, Chichioku’s skill menu is aptly named “Ninjutsu” and has moves that require the player to correctly input combo commands in order to execute the move. While Franc’s skill menu is named “command” and has skills which affect the status of the entire party. I really enjoyed those little details and am excited to see what kinds of skills future party members will have.
Sound
I really enjoyed the sound design of the game. Hearing the swords clash while the soldiers fought to hold the bridge, the loud cracks of Winstrom’s Thunderclap, and the slowing heartbeat of dying characters really added to the immersive experience of the game. There is also great battle music which I feel is especially important for RPGs.

Overall Impressions
The One Fenix Down demo is very good and I think fans of RPGs should give it a try. The story was emotional and by the end of the demo I felt invested in the characters. The combat was really fun, especially trying all the different moves and learning how to execute them. One Fenix Down is a game that I am especially looking forward to seeing the full release.
